内容記述 Renwang boruo jing 『仁王般若経』 is considered an apocryphal scripture composed in China. There are two extant translations of this scripture, whose translators have been regarded as Kumārajīva 鳩摩羅什 and Amoghavajra 不空. Many famous scholars from different schools wrote commentaries on these two translations. Since my concern is mostly with the thought and practice of Jingyuan 浄源 (1011-1088), a famous monk of the Huayan (Avataṁsaka) School 華厳宗 of the Song dynasty, I focus my research on Jingyuan’s commentary. Similar to my prior paper on Jingyuan’s attitude toward the confrontation between Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism, my paper aims at investigating Jingyuan’s thought in order to understand the influence of the Renwang boruo jing in the Song dynasty. The paper comprises four parts. Firstly, I clarify the bibliographical background of this commentary in order to show the connections between this commentary and other earlier commentaries of the Renwang boruo jing. I also inquire into the author’s purpose in writing this commentary. In the second part, I examine the structural characteristics of this commentary, which appears to be independent in this respect from the earlier commentaries. In the third part, I focus on the content of this commentary, analyze some details which bear the doctrinal marks of the Huayan School. Lastly, I compare the texts quoted or consulted in this commentary with those in the earlier commentaries and identify some distinguishing features of this work. For example, Jingyuan’s attitude towards the masters of the Sanlun School 三論宗―among whom he highly appraised only the thought of Sengzhao 僧肇―indicates that his interpretation of the teaching of the Sanlun School is from a Huayan perspective.
