| 内容記述 | In my recently completed MA thesis, dedicated to the study and annotated translation of The Treatise on Seeing One’s Nature and Attaining Buddhahood (見性成佛論 Kenshō jōbutsu ron), I show that the text is most likely related to the corpus attributed to or associated with Dainichibō Nōnin 大日房能忍. My thesis also contains a detailed examination of the basic ideas of the text, examination actually undertaken for the first time. In the present paper, I tackle its doctrinal stance from two different angles: (1) the sources cited or referred to in the text; and (2) the criticism of Buddhist schools and interpretations different from the Zen tradition. This analysis sheds more light upon the basic philosophical position of The Treatise on Seeing One’s Nature and Attaining Buddhahood and points even more convincingly to the possibility that the work is closely related to Nōnin. It is hoped that this will lead to a better understanding of Nōnin, the man and his thought. The paper also presents my conjectures concerning the dating of this text. | |||||||||||
